The SCRC welcomes Gabrielle Paluch, investigative journalist and author of “The Opium Queen: The Untold Story of the Rebel Who Ruled the Golden Triangle” for a book talk, moderated by Prof. Andrew Mertha, George and Sadie Hyman Professor of China Studies Inaugural Director of the SAIS Global China Research Center. The book examines historic events that underpinned critical diplomatic relationships between the U.S., Myanmar, and China, as told through the declassified intelligence surrounding Olive Yang, a critical operator in one of the most important fronts of the clandestine Cold War against China.
